The Red Rock Canyon Effect
The Village sits tight against the canyon walls. This creates a weird temperature cycle. One side of a headstone bakes in the sun, while the other stays freezing in the shadow of a butte. This uneven heating snaps granite. We call it "differential stress."
If you see a crack running down the middle of a marker, it’s likely thermal shock. Tending uses deep conditioners to keep the stone flexible enough to handle this daily twisting force without breaking.
Red Dust Staining
The soil here is pure iron oxide. It stains everything red. When it rains, red mud splashes up and soaks into the porous base of monuments. It looks like rust.
You can't just wash it off; it is a chemical bond. We use specific grave site cleaning services with poultices that draw the iron out of the pores. We restore the natural gray or pink of the granite, lifting that deep red stain safely.
Tourist Traffic Dust
VOC is a tourist hub. Thousands of cars kick up fine dust on the back roads. It settles on cemeteries as a thick layer. When it gets wet, it turns to cement. We use low-pressure rinsing to clear this traffic film without scratching the polished face of the memorial.
