Volcanic Cinder Soil Instability
Doney Park sits on volcanic cinders from Sunset Crater. This soil is loose and porous. It doesn't hold water; it drains fast. But it also shifts easily.
When snow melts, the ground moves. Heavy monuments sink into the cinders or tilt as the gravel washes away. We constantly see "sinking stones" here. Our grave site cleaning services include checking the grade. We backfill and pack the cinders to keep the marker level.
Deep Freeze Fractures
At the base of the Peaks, winter is cold. Water trapped in the stone freezes hard. Because the cinders are so porous, ground moisture wicks up into the base of the monument, causing it to crack from the bottom up.
We use deep-penetrating sealants to block this wicking action. We stop the ice from splitting the foundation of the memorial.
Forest Debris and Resin
The pine forest drops needles and sap. The resin bonds to the cold stone, turning black. You can't scrub it off without scratching. We use organic solvents to liquefy the sap and lift it off, revealing the clean stone underneath.
